Disney On Ice, Dare To Dream Review
If your kids are like mine, the second they hear the word Disney, their eyes light up. Even my son, who at five will swear he is against all things Princesses, can’t keep himself from jumping up and down at the mention of the word. So when they saw the tickets to Disney on Ice: Dare to Dream I instantly knew I had made a mistake to tell them about the event so many days before it was going to happen!

The show itself is designed perfectly with young kids in mind.  There is constant movement and the shift between “human” skaters and “Cartoon animals” keeps the audience on their toes.  The show begins with the traditional stories of Snow White and Cinderella for the first 45 minute half. Even kids who are not familiar with the movies will have no problem following the stories.  They are condensed down, but all the more exciting parts are highlighted. The magic intermixes with the love story and everyone is left applauding when the Price and Cinderella skate away together.

For my family, the highlight of the show came in the second act when the story of Tangled was presented. It was extremely funny! Rather than just traditional skating, they also incorporated acrobatics. As Rapunzel and Flynn are being chased around the stage, suddenly they use a drape that represented Rapunzel’s hair to lift themselves and fly around. At this point, it wasn’t just the kids who were looking at the stage wide-eyed; all of the adults were enthralled as well!

As the show closed, all of the Disney Princesses and The Princes came out for their moment on ice, which was nice in case your child’s favorite movie wasn’t represented in the main story lines of the evening. It concluded with Mickey and Minnie skating center stage as fireworks went off around them.

This show was a truly good time! Sure the kids talk and move around during it, but the atmosphere is so relaxed and family friendly that it isn’t something you have to stress out about.  My one and a half year old was just as excited during the performance as my five year old, so it appeals to all ages! With reasonable ticket prices and great seats still available, I encourage you to check out Disney on Ice at the Richmond Coliseum before it skates out of town!
