JLHR 3rd Annual Touch A Truck

May 17th - 9-3pm at Peninsula Town Center

April 18, 2014

JLHR 3rd Annual Touch A Truck will take place Saturday May 17th from 9am-3pm at the Peninsula Town Center in Hampton, Virginia.

Tickets are $5 for General Admission (starts at 10am) or $10 for VIP (9a-10a). Family 4-packs can be purchased in advance for $15 or $30 respectively and sold only in advance before May 15th online. We had over 2200 in attendance in 2013 and expect even more this year! We have over 50 vehicles committed for this year’s event as well as vendors and entertainment.

Examples of vehicles: construction equipment, police cars and fire trucks, VDOT and city vehicles, a bus, etc. There will even be a helicopter landing at 10 AM and will take off during the event, but before it does, kids will get to explore the helicopter. We have several entertainment vendors attending such as Busch Gardens Animal Ambassadors and My Gym Hampton Roads with a bounce house. There is also a trackless train and a race car simulator (a dditional fees may be required) as well as lots of area mascots and several groups performing on our "stage". There will also be merchant vendors at the event selling their products.

The Junior League of Hampton Roads is part of a larger picture. Junior Leagues can be found in 294 communities throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Great Britain. The Junior League has been the driving force behind the kinds of initiatives and institutions that make communities healthier and more vital places to live, childhood immunization, family literacy, women's shelters, children's museums, historic preservation, leadership development, and more.
More than 190,000 Junior League members - reflecting a wide range of backgrounds, interests, and professional pursuits - work together to identify unmet needs, forge effective coalitions, and work for change. Time and time again, the Junior League is among the first organizations to step up to the plate and tackle a community's biggest challenges.

Women Building Better Communities
That's the Junior League of Hampton Roads! We are an active group of trained volunteers who are committed to making a positive impact in the communities in the communities we serve on the Virginia Peninsula. The Junior League of Hampton Roads reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in voluntarism. Members are trained for leadership and effective volunteer services in management, communications, public policy, advocacy and other areas through workshops and hands-on experiences.

Chartered in 1957, the Junior League of Hampton Roads is an organization of approximately 500 women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The JLHR offers opportunities for women of all ages to engage in community volunteer experiences, leadership training and social opportunities.

Continuing a 57-year legacy of service to our community, the Junior League of Hampton Roads will launch our new issue area WISE (Women’s Initiative for Success and Empowerment). This program is designed to empower and uplift women who are confronting economic uncertainty and adversity. The WISE initiative will be implemented in our local communities through three coordinated committees: Get WISEr!, MoneyWISE/LifeWISE, and Teen WISE.

The true impact of our new issue area will be felt when generations of women can lead healthy fulfilling lives as a result of our efforts to give women the tools to improve their lives and well being.

Money raised from this event supports our WISE program, which helps women and children facing economic adversity in Hampton Roads. Last year we raised over $17.000 towards our cause.
