Drool in the Pool

Saturday, Sept. 6, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Chickahominy Riverfront Park

$10/dog

This popular dog swim day is eagerly anticipated each year and is great fun for you and your dog. Music provided by Philip Newbery of WMBG radio. All proceeds benefit the Heritage Humane Society. Info: visit heritagehumanesociety.org.

 

Black Settlement Presentation & Book Signing (all ages), Free!

Saturday, Sept. 6, 3-4 p.m.

Freedom Park

Join Lafayette Jones Jr., a descendent of those that lived on the Free Black Settlement at Freedom Park, for a presentation and book signing. Come experience 18th century life more than 60 years before the Emancipation Proclamation. 

 

Make Your Own Arcade (ages 8-12)

Saturday, Sept. 20, 10 a.m.-noon

$40; $35 for JC/W residents

Create activity-based games using clean recycled and new materials. Activities include corn hole-type games, putt-putt course challenges, bowling and other arcade-style games. Students get to take a game home! 

 

Archery 101 (ages 9+)

Tuesdays, Sept. 9-30, 5:30-7 p.m.

$55; $50 for JC/W residents

Warhill Sports Complex

Designed for beginner to intermediate ability. Learn the safe use and handling of recurve bow and arrows. 

 

Kidz Clay (ages 9-15)

Mondays, Sept. 15-Oct. 20 (no class Oct. 13), 4-5 p.m.

$45; $40 for JC/W residents

James City County Recreation Center

We’ll hand build and try the potter’s wheel. A variety of topics will be presented, so students may repeat the class. No experience needed. $20 due to instructor at first class for materials. 

Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP): Instruction, Trips & Tours (ages 11+)

Sunday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

$85; $80 for JC/W residents

Jamestown Beach Park

In partnership with Black Dog Paddle, these lessons cover all the basics as well as safety, strokes, balance and includes a short ECO-tour on paddling in nature! Maximum weight limit is 235 due to equipment stability. A participating adult must accompany youth aged 11-13. 


Bellydance FUNdamentals
 (ages 13+)Mondays, Sept. 8-29, 7-8 p.m.

Park Safety: What to Do If… (all ages & families), Free!

Have you ever been walking along a trail and see a snake? Would you know if it was venomous or not? Do you know what poison ivy looks like? Get the answer to these questions and more during a hike with Park Ranger Robert Insley.

Learn to Swim, Swim Evaluations, Free!

Having trouble deciding which of our swim levels is appropriate for your child? Our certified Water Safety Instructor will be available 4:30-7 p.m. on the following days to provide free swim evaluations - Tuesday, Sept. 2 and Wednesday, Sept. 3.
