Discovery Awaits in 3D at The Mariners’ Museum’s Explorers Theater!

May 29, 2015

The Mariners’ Museum will be open every day from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. through Labor Day Weekend, Sunday September 6. Set sail on a new adventure at the Museum any day of the week!

Every year, the Museum extends its hours from Memorial Day to Labor Day. These extended hours are created to assist visitors during peak travel season and to better serve the community while children are on summer break. Maritime Adventure Camps start in June with dates through August. Registration is now open and families are encouraged to sign-up quickly as space is limited.

The Museum is poised with a great summer schedule where guests of all ages can enjoy something interactive, exciting and unique. EXTREME DEEP: Mission to the Abyss opened on May 16 with rave reviews. Families can dive into the ocean depths and use hands-on technology to explore life at the bottom of the sea. Guests can continue their exploration of the deep-sea with a showing of James Cameron’s DEEPSEA CHALLENGE 3D in the Explorers Theater.

The always popular Thursdays by the Lake Summer Concert Series returns with a smash on June 4 with Hampton Roads’ hottest party band, The Deloreans. This free concert series happens on the Museum’s front lawn every Thursday night from 6 - 10 p.m. from June to August. The Bronze Door Society’s International Wine Classic is Saturday, June 20 and will feature unlimited tastings of international and domestic wines, gourmet food pairings, live music from the Jae Sinnett Trio and much more.

Guests can explore Lake Maury with boat rentals on the weekends. Jon boats, paddle boats and canoes are available for rental on Saturdays and Sundays from 7am - 4pm. The Noland Trail & Park are open to the public from sunrise to 8pm. Park lovers can add some adventure to their Park visit with the #MarinersChest Instagram treasure hunt! Follow the Museum on Instagram @marinersmuseum to find out about the awesome prizes.

Come explore the deepest oceans and the furthest corners of the world all from the comfort of your seat in our high-definition theater. Currently showing and upcoming films include: James Cameron’s DEEPSEA CHALLENGE 3D and Mysteries of the Unseen World 3D.

DEEPSEA CHALLENGE 3D (Now through October 30)

In conjunction with our newest interactive exhibition, EXTREME DEEP, guests of all ages can explore the deepest part of the world’s oceans and one of the most remote places on Earth, the Mariana Trench, a feature nearly seven miles beneath the ocean’s surface and one we know less about than we do the surface of Mars. Join James Cameron in his 3D film DEEPSEA CHALLENGE, which chronicles his solo dive to explore this next frontier on a deep-sea research submersible vehicle he designed and piloted himself.

Mysteries of the Unseen World 3D (Now through June 12)

Have you ever wondered about different dimensions in space and time? They exist, beside ours, dimensions in which organisms grow and multiply in a blink or on a microscopic scale and are invisible to the naked eye. Mysteries of the Unseen World slows down and magnifies such phenomena to exhibit the beauty of nature’s events--showing us that the life forms we see whether in person or on television are only one small piece of all life on earth.

Tickets to the Explorers Theater are an add-on to Museum admission, and cannot be purchased separately. For further information on showtimes and ticket pricing, visit MarinersMuseum.org/ExplorersTheater.
