Virginia Living Museum Hosts Inaugural STEM Career Day on March 2, Inspiring Future Innovators

Newport News, VA (February 27, 2024) The Virginia Living Museum is hosting its first STEM Career Day on Saturday, March 2, from  11:00 am - 3:00 pm. The one-day event will welcome young people and adults to discover a variety of science, technology, engineering, and math  (STEM) careers, as well as volunteer and employment opportunities at the Museum.

Guests will be able to talk with scientists and other STEM experts about their day-to-day job responsibilities, education, and backgrounds, as well as pathways to building a STEM career. Keeper talks and hands-on activities throughout the day will highlight STEM careers and volunteer opportunities at the Virginia Living Museum. Professionals from a variety of STEM fields, including veterinary care, marine science, animal husbandry, space science, exhibit design, and research science will be stationed throughout the Museum.

A series of videos featuring careers in veterinary care, community science, and animal training & enrichment are available on the Museum’s YouTube channel.

Educators can request accompanying facilitation guides to engage their students in discussions and further research about STEM careers.

The Museum hopes to make STEM Career Day an annual event to inspire and teach young people about the variety of careers available in STEM fields.

STEM Career Day has been funded by the Virginia General Assembly through VPCC and COVA STEM Hub.

STEM Career Day is included with Museum admission. For more information, including a schedule of keeper talks and educational programs, as well as ticket information, visit theVLM.org or contact the Museum at (757) 595-1900.
