Moe and Nora have returned to the North American River Otter Habitat!

The Virginia Living Museum keepers closely followed a slow plan to introduce Moe and Nora. They did an amazing job monitoring the otters throughout their attempts to successfully introduce them to share their exhibit.

However, based on their careful observations, the team determined that it is not in Moe and Nora's best interest to have them together at this time.  With Moe being the ripe age of 19 and Nora in her youthful years, it was determined that Nora’s energy might be too much for the beloved man our community knows and loves.

Otters tend to be solitary except for breeding season or a female with pups. Putting otters together long term, although possible and often done quite successfully in zoos and aquariums, is still something not typically observed in nature. We know this is disappointing for many of you, BUT Moe and Nora will take turns occupying the habitat and showing off their playfulness to our guests.

Nora will take her turn in the habitat first and has already embraced her new home with enthusiasm!
