All Paws on Deck for 9th Annual Paws for a Cause Dog Walk & Festival!

August 19, 2015
Calling all animal lovers!

Registrations are now open for the 9th Annual Paws for a Cause Dog Walk & Festival, Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Mariner’s Museum Park (Warwick Lot – across from Warwick High School).  This annual event draws nearly 2,000 people each year with a fundraising dog walk that benefits the animals of the Peninsula SPCA, in addition to demonstrations, vendors, food and beverages, children’s activities and more!

Guests who wish to participate in the two-mile fundraising dog walk are encouraged to register in advance.  Registration is only $10 before August 23 and includes an exclusive 2015 Paws for a Cause t-shirt, goody bag, FREE admission to the festival, a pledge packet and a free personal web page to assist with the individual’s fundraising efforts. Participants can raise donations individually or form a team with fellow animal lovers.  Prizes are awarded for top individual and team fundraisers.  Registration for children 6 & under is free ($5 for an event shirt).

Dog walkers can register between August 24 and September 18 for $15. Registration is available on-line at www.firstgiving.com/peninsulaspca/PFAC2015, by phone by calling 757.595.1399, or in person at the Peninsula SPCA, 523 J. Clyde Morris Blvd, Newport News.

Registration for the walk on the day of the event is $25 at the door.  For those who wish to attend the festival but do not want to participate in the walk, festival admission is only $5 (6 & under free). Guests receive one free ticket with the purchase of three festival admissions.

As an adoption-guarantee (no-kill) shelter, the Peninsula SPCA relies on community support to operate.  The Paws for a Cause Dog Walk & Festival is an important fundraiser for the shelter and a fun way to help support the Peninsula’s homeless animals who are awaiting adoption at the Peninsula SPCA.  Organizations or individuals who wish to support through volunteering are welcome and should contact Anne Carstens, volunteer coordinator, at 757.595.1399.  The shelter
still has volunteer opportunities for the event as well as the shelter. The PSPCA is also still accepting vendors and sponsors for the event.  Interested parties should contact Megan Steele at 757.595.1399, ext. 109 or visit the www.peninsulaspca.org for applications and more information.
About the PSPCA:  Since 1963, the Peninsula SPCA has provided shelter and adoption services for the homeless pets of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson and York County. In January 2015, the shelter transitioned to be an Adoption Guarantee, or “no kill” animal shelter, allowing expanded services including, humane education offerings to students and civic groups, and community outreach programs.  The mission of the Peninsula SPCA is to find loving homes for every animal in our care, and to advocate for the humane treatment of all animals in our community.
