Oct. 1-Nov. 20 Fall Planetarium Shows

Choose among three shows in the Virginia Living Museum’s Abbitt Planetarium. “Legends of the Night Sky: Orion” is a humorous version of the Greek legend of Orion, the hunter. Take a tour of the night sky in “Virginia Skies.” “Stars to Starfish” (Oct. 1-14) explores the earth’s oceans, while “Dinosaur Prophecy (Oct.15-Nov. 20) explores how dinosaurs lived and died. The planetarium is open Wednesday through Sunday. Shows are $4 plus Museum admission.

 

Oct. 29 Night of the Living Museum

This family Halloween celebration at the Virginia Living Museum returns for the 17th year. This is a not-too-spooky event for families with children ages 12 and under. Discover pumpkin carving secrets. Enjoy live animal shows featuring fierce and not-so-fierce Halloween critters in the amphitheater. Learn the ways of spiders large and small and see an assortment of creepy crawlies. Visit the tooth fairyland, magical cave and pirate cove. Take a nighttime hike along the outdoor boardwalk. Make creepy crafts and play Halloween games. Enjoy trick-or-treating for kids throughout the event. Kids of all ages - don’t forget to wear your favorite costume! The Wild Side Café will be open before and during the event. 4:30-8 p.m. VLM members $10, non-members $13. Advance purchase $1 off, full price day of the event. At 5, 5:45, 6:30 and 7:15 p.m. rock to a laser spook-tacular with a short family-friendly version of “Fright Light” in the planetarium for an additional $2 members, $4 non-members. 

 

Oct. 29 Fright Light

It’s a howling good time in the Virginia Living Museum Abbitt Planetarium with this frightfully awesome mix of terror-ific tunes! Wild and weird laser images accompany songs from Black Sabbath, Garbage, The Who and so many more! Come enjoy this laser spook-tacular! Family friendly show at 8 p.m., songs with inappropriate lyrics or terrifying imagery will not be used. $3 for VLM members, $6 for non-members.
