KIDS CAN BE UNREASONABLE TOO!
As a little girl growing up in an abusive household, Ateba Gaines dreamed of becoming Wonder Woman. This problem-solving justice warrior inspired Gaines to become a superhero as an adult. Instead of using a lasso of truth, Ateba armed herself with knowledge - fighting injustice through social entrepreneurship and legislative policy.
Her passion stems from her personal experience as a victim of sexual abuse. In her desire to reclaim her life, she started a social enterprise called Shoe Revolt to raise funds by auctioning celebrity shoes. Many celebrity supporters donated personal artifacts and memorabilia including Sarah Jessica Parker, Lea Michele, Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Taylor Swift, Jada Smith, and Shark Tank's Barbara Corcoran. Her entrepreneurial endeavors have gained much attention over the years, earning her a spot as a finalist in the Women Deliver Social Enterprise sponsored by Clinton Global Initiatives. As well as being highlighted as Featured Innovator and Featured Change Maker by ABCs 14C Campaign, Gaines has been featured on MTV, MTV Exit, and MTV Act. Currently, Ateba advocates for House Bill 268 to expunge the records of human trafficking victims.
Ateba has gained national and international success in the field of social entrepreneurship and is passionate about supporting legislative change to support human trafficking victims. Her zeal for education has empowered her and she seeks to pay that empowerment forward. Her love for kids and social entrepreneurship led her to start Unreasonable Kids, an organization designed to provide kids with social entrepreneurship education. "Kids see opportunity where adults see problems" Gaines expresses.
